Mascara is one of those makeup products that most of us reach for daily and with a recommended shelf life of only 3 - 6 months, it's not typically something that I like to spend a lot of money on.

This mascara from budget makeup brand Miners Cosmetics has been an exciting product to try out as I've been impressed with some of their products before but mascaras can be so tricky to get right. So, how does this one measure up...?

The basics at a glance:

Packaging: Pink hard plastic tube
Designed for: The eyelashes
Consistency: Thick, non-runny liquid
Scent: N/A
Size: 8 ml
Price: £ 3.49
Available from: Miners Cosmetics Online

Product Description: "This top quality, high performance Mascara has been specially designed to make your lashes luscious and long, giving fullness with each application."

This brush is of the traditional bristle variety and has a slight hourglass shape. It's quite long and not very wide which makes it easier to control and less likely to poke you in the eye! Although the brush is pretty basic, it does a good job of separating lashes without clumping.

This mascara is available in two shades: Black and Carbon Black. This one is of the Carbon Black variety and it really does seem to effortlessly darken my mousey brown lashes. It's designed to be volumising and I would say that it is. It's not necessarily of the thickening variety but it certainly adds some oomph to my lashes. By coating my lashes right to the very ends, this also gives a lengthening effect. To get the most flutter power possible from your lashes, I would always recommend curling them first using an eyelash curler!

The formula is nice to work with as it's somewhere in the middle being neither too thick or thin, nor too wet or dry. This doesn't flake on me or transfer to under my eyes.
It's perhaps not the most buildable mascara I've ever used as I didn't see much of a difference after I applied a second coat but I was pleased with the results after the first coat anyway.
Any accidental smudges are easy to clean up with a damp cotton bud. I remove this mascara at night using my regular water based eye makeup remover (ASDA Young Skin) and don't find that I have to particularly scrub to get it off which is always a good thing.

This is an effective and inexpensive mascara that I think works very well on my lashes. It's definitely something I'm going to continue to enjoy until it's all used up!

What mascara are you using at the moment?
